J. Patten Brown, III, Esq.

My private law practice is focused on criminal defense, trials, and appeals. I provide experienced, aggressive and thorough criminal defense representation in state courts in Connecticut, New York, Louisiana and Tennessee and federal district and appellate courts around the country. I have tried more than 150 jury trials to verdict. In addition to an extensive private clientele, I serve on the Criminal Justice Act Panels for several federal district and appellate courts and am qualified to accept appointments in capital cases in the State of Connecticut.

I formerly served as an assistant federal defender for the Western District of Tennessee where I tried more than 40 federal jury trials and made more than 20 oral arguments before the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. I was responsible for training and assisting lawyers who are part of the Criminal Justice Act panel with motions, legal research and general advice.

I was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army with the rank of Captain. I am a graduate of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia and the U.S. Army Airborne Infantry School. As trial defense counsel, I tried approximately 25 jury trials and achieved at least 10 acquittals in a 15 month period. I served for two years as the principal legal advisor on international law and military operations to the commander and staff of an Armored Infantry Division of well over 17,000 U.S. Army soldiers, participating in several deployments. I served as a liaison and protocol officer at the Center for Law and Military Operations in Charlottesville, Virginia for visiting foreign national officers from Spanish speaking countries in Latin America.
